A packed room of eager BNCWI members listened as Jessica Strawser,
author and editor-at-large for Writer’s Digest, shared helpful industry knowledge
during a Skype Q&A. In addition to the humorous stories she shared,
the group benefitted from Jessica’s advice on a wide range of topics
including: social media, community, trends, writing habits, opportunities, and keeping doors open. Jessica’s warm and inviting personality, combined with a chat that was filled useful information,
left BNCWI members inspired to get home and get writing!

Enthusiastic BNCWI members were able to pull back the curtain on the elusive publishing world
in a no holds barred Q&A Skype chat with Penguin Random House Executive Art Director, Giuseppe Castellano. Giuseppe generously shared insider knowledge and tips to navigating the wonderful world of kidlit.
Both writers and illustrators benefited from Giuseppe's insight. If you missed the Skype chat
(or even if you didn't!), you will definitely want to listen to his interview on the Literaticast Podcast.

Let's talk about books, baby!
At our next BNCWI meeting, we will be discussing our favorite books that have been published in the past 3 years. Please bring 1 or 2 recent favorites in any category (picture book, middle grade, YA, etc.) to share with the group. This is a great opportunity to see what's happening in the market and to find out about books you may have missed. We can't wait to hear what you loved (or didn't like) about the books you bring.
Please join us on Monday, June 26th at 7pm (at the Audubon Library) for the book talk and volunteer recognition. (As always, new writers and illustrators are always welcome to join us for a meeting!)
This will be our last meeting until August, so we hope to see you there. For our full meeting schedule, please click here.
On Saturday, BNCWI members gathered at Tifft Nature Preserve for a day of writing (and illustrating). Inspiration was in the air as the group worked in 30 minute sprints interspersed with breaks for stretching, snacking, and general relaxing. Word counts and smiles were abundant after a fun (and productive) writing retreat. Thank you to Franziska & Terri for organizing such a successful event!
