At our next BNCWI meeting, we will be discussing our favorite books that have been published in the past 3 years. Please bring 1 or 2 recent favorites in any category (picture book, middle grade, YA, etc.) to share with the group. This is a great opportunity to see what's happening in the market and to find out about books you may have missed. We can't wait to hear what you loved (or didn't like) about the books you bring. Please join us on Monday, June 26th at 7pm (at the Audubon Library) for the book talk and volunteer recognition. (As always, new writers and illustrators are always welcome to join us for a meeting!) This will be our last meeting until August, so we hope to see you there. For our full meeting schedule, please click here. On Saturday, BNCWI members gathered at Tifft Nature Preserve for a day of writing (and illustrating). Inspiration was in the air as the group worked in 30 minute sprints interspersed with breaks for stretching, snacking, and general relaxing. Word counts and smiles were abundant after a fun (and productive) writing retreat. Thank you to Franziska & Terri for organizing such a successful event!
Last night, BNCWI members enjoyed a fun meeting as they listened to the amazing Elizabeth Rose Stanton describe the path she took to become a successful picture book author and illustrator. During her Skype chat, Elizabeth shared insights about process, publishing, and promotion. After having their questions answered, the group's authors and illustrators left the meeting inspired and ready to work with a deeper understanding of the wonderful world of kidlit! Please visit Elizabeth's website, www.penspaperstudio.com, to learn more about Henny, Peddles, and her upcoming book, Bub!
Our next BNCWI meeting is sure to be a good one! We are very fortunate to be having picture book author & illustrator, Elizabeth Rose Stanton, joining us (via Skype) all the way from Seattle! Elizabeth creates heartwarming books with lovable, offbeat characters that celebrate individuality. As the creator of multiple successful picture books, there is no doubt that her talk will offer valuable insights into the world of children's book publishing. Whatever your interest in kidlit is, you won't want to miss this meeting! Be sure to check out her books: And, coming in 2018...
